It was an honor and a privilege for me to attend the 13th Annual Jose L. Romero Memorial Concert held recently at the Stepping Stone Playhouse in Kahului. Aside from gifted and skilled musicians who performed at the event, the highlight of the concert was a vocal rendition of “Kundiman-Madaling Araw” by Jose’s wife Joyce Romero. The audience stood in awe and appreciation of her soprano/coloratura voice.

Dr. Romero was the first Filipino doctor and surgeon on Maui. He was an accomplished violinist and the concertmaster for the Maui Symphony orchestra.
