Five Vie for the Title of Miss Maui Filipina 2010

LAHAINA-- The Maui Filipino Community Council, an alliance of Philippine community, civic, and cultural organizations of the  county of Maui, will hold on June 12 its 51st Miss Maui Filipina Scholarship Pageant at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa., Monarchy Ballroom.

Themed, “The Beauty of a Filipina Lies Within,” five young ladies of Philippine descent will compete in the scholarship pageant and will vie for the title of Miss Maui Filipina 2010.

The contestants are:

 Abegail Blando, 18, a senior at Baldwin High School. She will attend the University of Northern Colorado and will pursue a degree in nursing. She traces her roots from Bacarra, Ilocos Norte and Abra. Her parents are Ruben and Gregoria of Kahului.
 


Shannel Ulep, 18, a senior of Lahainaluna High School traces her roots from San Nicolas Ilocos Norte. Her parents, Nicholas and Imelda, are from Lahaina.

 






Kaila Custer, 18, traces her roots from Santiago, Isabela. Her parents are Chris and Raquel from Makawao. She will pursue a degree in liberal arts at the University of Hawaii-Maui College.

 





Dibea Lapid, 21, attends the University of Hawaii-Maui College and is pursuing a degree in nursing. She traces her roots from Leyte and Manila. Her parents are Dindo and Maria from Los Angeles, California.

 





Whitney Acoba, 17, is a senior at Maui High School and will attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa and pursue a degree in biology. She traces her roots from Bacarra, Ilocos Norte. Her parents, Willie and Nena, are from Kahului.

 





Michelle Santos, executive director of the pageant, says that the affair will begin with a no host cocktails at 5:30 pm followed by the pageant  at 7:00 pm. Ticket holders will receive a 25 percent discount on food purchased on the Umalu Restaurant of the pageant venue on the day of the pageant only.
 
“Part of the money raised from ads and ticket sales will be used for scholarship for the contestants and other high school or college students,” she added.
