Queen has Sakada Roots

KAHULUI, Maui- Incoming freshman Celina Jean K. Macadangdang Hayashi was crowned Miss Maui Filipina 2009 during th 50th Miss Maui Filipina Scholarship Pageant held at the Maui Theatre. During the impromptu question and answer, she was asked what can we do to restore peace and harmony during these tough economic times which lead to increased domestic violence. She confidently answered, "We should instill ourselves and perpetuate the importance of love and loyalty and celebrate all the good things in life."

Celina is the daughter of Duane and Agnes Macadangdang Hayashi of Makawao, Maui. It must be remembered that Agnes was a former Miss Maui Filipina title holder in 1978. From her terno speech, we learn that Celina is the granddaughter of a 1946 Sakada, Pedro and Remigia Macadangdang, who hail from Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.

She compete in the Miss Hawaii Filipina pageant last July 18 at the Hawaii Theatre in Honolulu.
